Product Information - Steenbergs Asafoetida - or Hing - is an important specialist spice used in traditional Indian cuisine that helps with the digestion of pulses, so is great in vegetarian diets.  Originating from giant fennel, asafoetida is bitter, musky and acrid on its own but when fried briefly in hot oil in becomes pleasantly onion-like.  Asafoetida is an important ingredient in Indian and the South East Asian cooking.  Steenbergs asafoetida is mixed with ground rice and is gluten free.
